About Bahrain Airport
Bahrain International Airport is the worldwide air terminal of Bahrain, situated in Muharraq, an island around 7 km (4.3 mi) upper east of the capital Manama. It serves as the center point for the national transporter Gulf Air.
The initially planned business carrier to land in Bahrain, in 1932, was a flight from London to Delhi worked on a Handley Page H.P.42 air ship named “Hannibal.” The H.P.42 conveyed just 24 travelers, and the flight from London had taken a few days of flying at velocities of 100 miles for each hour. Through this frequently booked administration, Bahrain got to be set up as the Persian Gulf’s first worldwide airport.
Amid World War II, the airplane terminal was utilized by the United States Army Air Forces Air Transport Command Central African Wing, being assigned as Station # 13. It worked as a stopover on the way to Abadan Airport, Iran or Sharjah Airport, in present-day UAE on the Karachi-Cairo route. From 1943 until Bahrain’s freedom in December 1971, the Royal Air Force kept up an army base at the landing strip referred to at first as RAF Bahrain and from 1963 as RAF Muharraq. The greater part of these offices were later gained by the Bahraini banner bearer aircraft, Gulf Air, while a little divide keeps on being used by the U.S. Naval force as Aviation Support Unit (ASU) Bahrain.
Through the years
In 1936, the operation of H.P.42 airplane from London to India by means of Bahrain had been ventured up to a twice-week by week recurrence. In 1937, Bahrain saw the normal administration of the Empire ocean planes. The runway of these goliaths on the water was from where the marina club is situated in Mina Salman today. From the 1950s, BOAC worked a few administrations a week through Bahrain. These included week by week administrations to Karachi, Singapore, Hong Kong and three times each week to Sydney. 1950 was a huge year for Muharraq as a universal air terminal, as well as for Bahrain’s own business avionics history. In this year, another neighborhood carrier, Gulf Aviation Company, was framed – the precursor of Gulf Air.
